Publishing Project Version

Estimated reading: 4 minutes

Adding a new project version to BEXEL CDE is available for users who have been added to the relevant project on BEXEL CDE.

To add New Project Version to the BEXEL CDE from the BEXEL Manager, follow the steps:

  1. Go to the BEXEL CDE tab and click the New Version command
  2. When BEXEL Viewer Publish Wizard opens, select the desired project from the BEXEL CDE Project drop-down List and enter the Project Version Name
  3. Click Next

4. Choose between Publish file options: IFC Version (IFC 2X3 or IFC 4) and Filter (All Elements, Selected Elements or Visible Elements)

5. From the drop-down list, select how a published model will be divided (by SourceCategory or Selection Set)

6. Select which Properties need to be published to CDE project

7. Click Next

The published BEXEL CDE file format is IFC. Supported files are IFC2x3 and IFC4. IFC 4 is recommended.

Filter options enable users to specify and select which elements to include in new Project Version. Users can choose to publish all elements or selected ones, or only visible elements in the perspective view.

Users can choose which properties should be published to the CDE Project and whether to copy properties from a previous CDE Project Version. It is recommended to publish only relevant Selected properties and to save your choice by using a template.

Models can be divided in various ways, including:

1. Source: This option is suitable when the model originates from the merging of different sources. Users can partition it based on its source components

2. Selection Sets: Users can create custom selection sets according to their specific requirements. This feature offers virtually limitless possibilities for organizing and dividing the model content as needed. Please note that one element cannot be included in multiple selection sets

3. Categories: Elements within the model belong to specific fundamental categories. Users can choose to divide the model based on these predefined categories, facilitating a structured organization of the elements.

Dividing BIM model sources on multi-level

Dividing BIM model sources on multi-level enables access the part of BIM model and information needed to improve collaboration, decision-making, and overall project efficiency by customizing the BIM model organization. Selective loading of data sources for large projects eliminates the necessity to load all information simultaneously, resulting in streamlined workflows and improved focus on specific project phases by stakeholders.

For efficient model division on BEXEL CDE, a useful option is to divide the model by Selection Sets.

It is crucial to create Selection Sets before initiating the publishing process. Only elements contained within the chosen selection set folder will be published to BEXEL CDE. Make sure that there are no multiple selection sets with the same BIM model element.

It is recommended to organize Selection sets created for publishing to CDE as source files into two primary hierarchy levels: spatial and functional. This hierarchical structure can then be refined with custom properties such as subcontractors, groups of works, and categories.

Highrise Project divided by levels, constructions sequences and work groups

Note

For most high-rise projects, we recommend defining the following 4 levels of hierarchy structure:

Level 1 – Buildings
Level 2 – Work package
Level 3 – Floors
Level 4 – Original Source

Infrastructure Project divided by linear division and road type

Sample Project divided by levels and work groups

Tips and tricks

When creating selection sets for publishing it is recommended to create them from custom breakdowns, generated based on unique properties, each with a single value.

Uploading model Properties

To keep the model organized and easy to navigate, it is recommended to carefully select which properties are published during the upload process. To do this, choose the Selected Properties option in the Publish Wizard window, then select the desired properties from the list. For greater efficiency in future uploads, users can save the current property selection as a template, which can be imported when publishing the next version. Templates could be saved on a local computer, and for convenience, the user can use the Knowledge Base location. It is recommended to use the location: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BEXEL\Bexel Manager 25\Custom Templates\Property Export.
