Clash detection types Estimated reading: 4 minutes 1487 views Clash type determines the type of clash between the individual elements. Clash type Hard Clash type Hard detects clashes where the elements go through each other. To check clashes between an individual group of elements using clash type Hard follow the next steps:Select the Clash Detection tab → Click New Job → Define the name of the clash in the Job Name window → Select the group of elements on the left side of the window → Select the group of elements on the right side of the window → Select Clash Type: Hard → Click Run.The option Exclude Clashes within Group is enabled by default. To check clashes within the same group of elements (Ducts vs Ducts) the option Exclude Clashes within Group needs to be disabled. Clash type Hard Conservative Clash type Hard – Conservative is an option that does the same test as clash type Hard but also applies a conservative intersection method for clash detection between elements. Hard clash is a clash between the triangles defining the two elements being analyzed, and Hard conservative is a clash between the circle around the triangles. To check clashes between an individual group of elements using clash type Hard Conservative follow the next steps:Select the Clash Detection tab → Click New Job → Define the name of the clash in the Job Name window → Select the group of elements on the left side of the window → Select the group of elements on the right side of the window → Select Clash Type: Hard Conservative → Click Run. Clash type Clearance Clearance, or soft clash, will detect when an element goes through the necessary buffer around the other element. To check clashes between an individual group of elements using clash type Clearance follow the next steps:Select the Clash Detection tab → Click New Job → Define the name of the clash in the Job Name window → Select the group of elements on the left side of the window → Select the group of elements on the right side of the window → Select Clash Type: Clearance → Click Run. Duplicate (Bounds) The duplicate (Bounds) option is used to check if there are duplicate elements in the 3D model. This usually occurs when different sub-models are combined in the authoring tool in which the project was originally built. To check if there are any duplicates that came from authoring software or different sources follow the next steps:Select the Clash Detection tab → Click New Job → Define the name of the clash in the Job Name window (e.g. Duplicates – AR-Floors) → Select the group of elements (e.g. AR-Floors) on the left side of the window → Select the same group of elements on the right side of the window → Select Clash Type: Duplicate (Bounds)→ Disable Exclude Clashes within Group → Click Run.If the option Exclude Clashes within the Group is disabled the system will be able to perform clash analysis within the same group of elements. Containment clash type Containment clash finds all elements within the room, space, or any other container element. BIM model elements can be enriched with containment relations, and created relations can be viewed and fine-tuned within the Relation tab in Property Menu.
